Now

What is a “Now Page”?

While we’re accustomed to learning about someone’s background through an “About” page or finding their contact information on a “Contact” page, a now page serves a unique purpose - it presents what a person is currently focused on and what’s central to their life right now.

Unlike the fragmented updates on social media, a now page is more like what you’d share with an old friend you haven’t seen in a year: where you’ve recently moved to, what projects you’re focusing on, what new interests you’ve developed, and any significant life changes. This holistic snapshot of life helps readers quickly understand your current situation while helping you clarify what truly matters to you. This simple yet meaningful concept was first introduced by Derek Sivers, who also maintains a webpage about the “now page project”.

In the discussion thread How and why to make a /now page on your site, some people mentioned that this serves a similar role to current social media, but what makes a now page special is its time scale - social media typically reflects updates from hours to days, while a now page covers life focuses spanning months to a year. This “pull” rather than “push” approach to information allows us to more consciously follow those we truly want to know about. Of course, like with blogs, the biggest challenge is maintaining regular updates XD.
